about us

zokutou* is a creative writing group based in the United Kingdom, whose main aim is to expand the limits of writing beyond the mundane. In order to not fall into the traditional writing circle, the group chose to call itself Zokutou, a Japanese word that can be translated as 'the acsending spiral'.

The group found its start in November 2002, via the internet-based month of insanity known as NaNoWriMo. After spending a month together on- and off-line, writing and avoiding writing, the seed of a permanent collaboration was sown. Along with an online forum, the group usually meets twice a month in central London, to share writing woes and play word games. We also produce a quarterly anthology, where members submit work on a chosen theme. These anthologies, containing creative writing and art, are published online.

New members are always welcome, both virtually and at our face-to-face meetings.
